Me over the years. #jessieshungry #art

This means so much to me. I’ll tell you why.
I drew the picture on the left when I was 18. I wasdepressed. Notice how the caption on the first drawing says “I push you away. I’m sorry for it.” I wasn’t making shit up. I was pushing people I cared about away from me because I hated myself. I felt weak (no skin on his bones), vulnerable (no boots to protect his webbed feets), and isolated (you can’t see it because the full drawing is cropped, but there is a small shadowy human figure below at his feet looking up at him).
Today I’m none of that. Today I’m stronger, independent, and I try to be grateful for everything that happens in my life, good or bad. I’ve gained muscle, a strong pair of boots, and I found my tiny daisy.
Thank you for noticing these things, Stephanie.
I figured I’d answer this in a post in case anyone else was interested in the answer!
First of all, thank you! :) I get ideas from everywhere, nature, animals, people, inspiration from other artists. Often times an idea will just pop into my head when I’m driving or in the shower, at which point I must write it down immediately otherwise I’ll forget it the next morning. I actually have a little to do list on my iphone, anytime I think of a new concept or project I type it in and when I’m feeling inspired, I go through the list and see what can accomplish!
When I create characters, I usually just start with the eyes. Somehow I always know who my creature is going to be from their eyes. From there I just mess around with different shapes and features, erasing and redrawing until I get the right fit. “How would he look with horns? Skinny arms or fat arms? Should he wear suspenders? Nah, he looks good in a suit.” etc. It’s all a matter of practice and experimenting! :)
I drew the picture on the left when I was 18. I’ve always been in love with the concept, so I decided to upgrade it 5 years later. #lagoon #art #jessieshungry prints of the new version are available in my shop! Jessieshungry.com/shop
This idea popped into my head the other day, so I decided to make it tonight. if I made more of these, would anyone be interested in buying them? #art #sculpture #jessieshungry #monster
